Today, the Coalition to Stop Restaurant Tariffs issued the following statement in response to the United States’ decision to temporarily suspend its 25 percent tariffs on many European foods, wines, and spirits.
The Coalition to Stop Restaurant Tariffs represents restaurants and suppliers in all 50 states. Led by renowned chefs and restaurant owners, the coalition seeks an end to tariffs on European food, wine, and spirits that harm small and independent restaurant owners already struggling to survive the debilitating Covid-19 pandemic.
American trade officials this month suspended tariffs on certain European foods and wines that raised or threatened to push up restaurant prices and cut jobs and profits.
The White House on Thursday agreed to suspend millions of dollars worth of tariffs on U.K. exports, including Scotch whisky, as part of an effort to resolve a long-running trans-Atlantic trade dispute over aerospace subsidies.
